J. King famously said \u201cI don&#8217;t know what the hell this &#8220;logistics&#8221; is that Marshall is always talking about, but I want some of it.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since he was an admiral, I am pretty sure somebody got Mr. King\u00a0some logistics.<\/p>\n<p>Admiral King was no doubt surrounded by logistics activities and logisticians. He just didn\u2019t know which functions were actually considered logistics.<\/p>\n<p>We have the same problem in the 3PL business. We are surrounded by so many different types of 3PLs and 3PL services. Where does one service stop and another begin? What is considered logistics vs what is considered supply chain? Or distribution?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>So what is a 3PL?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>According to CSCMP, a Third Party Logistics Provider is:<\/p>\n<p><em>A firm which provides multiple logistics services for use by customers. Preferably, these services are integrated, or &#8220;bundled&#8221; together by the provider. These firms facilitate the movement of parts and materials from suppliers to manufacturers, and finished products from manufacturers to distributors and retailers. Along with the top 3PLs, they describe the services so I used that as my guide.\u00a0I wrote an ebook with definitions for each of these services a few years back.\u00a0The definitions\u00a0would have\u00a0made this post way too long so I will save them for another post.<\/p>\n<p>Do you agree with this list of services?
